What is the Backyard Adventure?
A treasure hunt designed to showcase good eats, treats and family fun in the Cuyuna Lakes area. It did cause some heads to turn, some rumblings and to question, “What is this Backyard Adventure?”
The goal was to give a family an affordable experience close to home – highlighting area businesses along the route and hopefully demonstrating the potential of adding KKadvertising to their toolbox. Families could enter at the Touch-A-Truck school fundraiser event or through Facebook.
The trick was to keep the hunt suitable for any age, giving publicity to each landmark for ideas on future return visits, and fail proof. After all, most don’t like being lost. Each clue included a code to text to KKadvertising. (If looked closely, the code was actually a word spelled backwards hinting to the hiding place.) A helpful and hopefully obvious tip was texted promptly back. A photo of each clue’s hiding spot was also ready for a backup.
The seekers could travel at their own pace – the hunt could last an hour or a day. The Backyard Adventure winners chose to do it over a 4-day period and discovered the home of Mixed Company’s Kitchen Sink Sundae with their treasure waiting.
The theme was centered around the human reaction to the five senses. Often in advertising your goal is to engage your viewer to act. Five clues focused on hearing, sight, touch, taste and smell. As part of the end treasure, the winners were encouraged to engage their “sixth sense” of creativity – something that combines all of the five senses we each carry and opening ourselves up to new ideas.
Thanks to the area businesses for helping out on our treasure hunt and a special thank you to Ashley and her family for being such great sports! It was so fun getting to see the kids faces and reactions she shared!
